Warning Description: Winter Storm Warning

Warning Date: 5:31 PM EST on March 7, 2008

WarningSum:...Winter Storm Warning Remains In Effect From 10 Pm Est This
Evening To 5 Am Edt Sunday...

Warning Message:A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 10 PM EST this
evening to 5 am EDT Sunday for the southern Adirondacks.
Significant ice accumulations are expected tonight and Saturday
with accumulating snow Saturday night. Precipitation will
overspread the southern Adirondacks this evening starting out as
snow and or rain...then transitioning to a wintry mix of
snow...sleet and freezing rain overnight. Warmer air will move in
aloft Saturday morning resulting in the predominate precipitation
type of freezing rain with up to around a half of an inch of ice
accumulation expected. By early Saturday afternoon...surface
temperatures are expected to warm to above freezing resulting in a
plain rain during the afternoon. Colder air will be ushered back
into the region Saturday night changing the rain back to all snow
with 2 to 5 inches of snow accumulations expected by the time the
snow tapers off early Sunday morning.
Power outages are possible across the warning area due to the ice
accumulations...followed by snow and the strong gusty winds
Saturday night.
The wintry mix will be the result of a low pressure system over
the southeastern United States which will move northeast
overnight...reaching the mid Atlantic region Saturday morning.
The low will move northeast across the local area Saturday
afternoon and to northern New England Saturday night.
A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow...
sleet...and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
