Thanksgiving Vacation Hiking Tours

November 27, 2019 - December 1, 2019

We will be offering a guided hiking tour each morning from Wednesday, November 27 through Sunday, December 1, 2019.  On Thanksgiving morning, we will be offering a special hike to the Sugar House for hot chocolate and pastries. Other hikes are likely to include destinations such as the Hooper Mine, The Balm of Gilead and the William Blake Pond. Guided hikes will become snowshoe tours as soon as we have snow and are a great way to get out in the woods and learn about local history along the way.

Tours are free to guests and $10 to non-guests.  Please inquire at the Front Desk or the Outdoor Center for details and to sign up.  Stop by or call (518) 251-2444.

Hooper Mine Hike:

This easy, laid back hike is filled with information on the mine and it’s connection to our historic lodge. Discover abandoned mines’ shacks along the path, search for clues from the past and discover garnet embedded in the rocks of the old mine.

Level – Easy.

Time—Approximately 1 hour.

William Blake Pond Hike:

Just before the turnoff for the Hooper Mine is the beginning of the Nature trail, This trail works its way uphill along a stream and will lead us to William Blake Pond. Technically, this body of water is not a real pond and was originally the result of the stream being dammed for mining. Nevertheless, it makes a great destination for a morning hike.

Time—Approximately 1.5 hours.

Elizabeth Point Hike:

This route follows a distinct old road to the site of an 1877 farmstead and plantation foundations are still visible amidst the trees. A short side trail leads to Elizabeth Point on Thirteenth Lake where there is a nice picnic spot and beach with great views.

Time—Approximately 2 hours.

Thanksgiving Morning Hike:

Join us on a hike through the woods along the Garnet Hill Ski Trails.  We will make our way down to the old Sugar House, where guests will enjoy pastries and hot chocolate before we make our way back up to the lodge.  The perfect way to start your Adirondack Thanksgiving.

Time—Approximately 2 hours.
