Outdoor Center Weekend Activities

September 27, 2019 - September 29, 2019

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 12:00 am on Friday, repeating until December 2, 2019

Garnet Hill Lodge and Outdoor Center offers a variety of activities each weekend.  These always include hiking tours on both Saturdays and Sundays and may include yoga classes, kayak tours, snowshoe tours and back country ski tours, depending on weather and availability.  The guided hikes become snowshoe tours as soon as we have snow, and are a popular offering year-round.  They are a great way to get out in the woods and learn about local history along the way.  Tours are free to guests and $10 to non-guests.  Please inquire at the Front Desk or the Outdoor Center for details and to sign up.  Stop by or call (518) 251-2444.

Check back in the days prior to your visit for an updated itinerary.  Some of our favorite activities include:

Hooper Mine Hike:

This easy, laid back hike is filled with information on the mine and it’s connection to our historic lodge. Discover abandoned mines’ shacks along the path, search for clues from the past and discover garnet em- bedded in the rocks of the old mine.

Level – Easy.

Time—Approximately 1 hour.

William Blake Pond Hike:

Just before the turnoff for the Hooper Mine is the beginning of the Nature trail, This trail works its way uphill along a stream and will lead us to William Blake Pond. Technically, this body of water is not a real pond and was originally the result of the stream being dammed for mining. Nevertheless, it makes a great destination for a morning hike.

Time—Approximately 1.5 hours.

Kayak Tour:

This adventure will take hikers onto the beautiful 13th lake for sightseeing and boating instruction. Learn about the loons, beavers and other wildlife that call our lake home.

Difficult level—Moderate.

Time— Approximately 2 hours.

Elizabeth Point Hike:

This route follows a distinct old road to the site of an 1877 farmstead and plantation foundations are still visible amidst the trees. A short side trail leads to Elizabeth Point on Thirteenth Lake where there is a nice picnic spot and beach with great views.

Time—Approximately 2 hours.
