Class Descriptions
Vinyasa Yoga
Vinyasa is also called “flow yoga” or “vinyasa flow.” It is an incredibly common style of yoga. The word “vinyasa” translates to “place in a special way,” which is often interpreted as linking breath and movement. You’ll often see words like slow, dynamic, or mindful paired with vinyasa or flow to indicate the intensity of a practice. The poses in this style are very synchronized with breath in a continuous rhythmic flow. That flow can be meditative in nature, calming the mind and nervous system, even as you are moving. Vinyasa is suitable for anyone who wants more movement and less stillness from their yoga practice. Options are always given with detailed instructions so anyone from a beginner to an experienced practitioner may participate.
Hatha Yoga
Hatha yoga derives its name from the Sanskrit words for sun and moon, and is designed to balance opposing forces. The balance in hatha yoga might come from strength and flexibility, physical and mental energy, or breath and the body. Hatha is a blanket term for many different styles of yoga. To be considered hatha, classes must include a mix of poses, breathing exercises, and meditation. Our Hatha classes will focus on postures being held for longer periods of time with breath work, however less flow than a vinyasa class. Hatha yoga is suitable for anybody at any skill level.
