An event every week that begins at 12:00am on Saturday, repeating until March 17, 2019
We offer guided snowshoe tours each weekend on both Saturday and Sunday. These trecks are a great way to get out in the woods and learn about local history along. They are free to guests and $10 to non-guests. Please inquire at the Front Desk or the Outdoor Center for details and to sign up. Stop by or call (518) 251-2444. Snowshoe rental is $10.
Saturday – Hooper Loop or Balm of Gilead – 1pm
The Hooper Loop takes us from the Ski Shop up to the rim of Hooper Mine, where we will be able to look down into the pit of the old mine. From there, we will continue on to William Blake Pond. Though not a true pond, as it was originally the result of the stream being dammed for mining, it makes a beautiful stop on our winter tour and is home to plenty of wildlife.
The Balm of Gilead is a small mountain located near the Outdoor Center. The climb provides a good workout without being too long, and the view from the top of 13th Lake and the Adirondack Mountains is nothing short of magnificent.
Level—Intermediate. Time—Approximately 2.5 hours.
Sunday – Hooper Mine – 10am
This easy, laid back hike is filled with information on the mine and it’s connection to our historic lodge. Discover abandoned mines’ shacks along the path, search for clues from the past and discover garnet embedded in the rocks of the old mine.
Level – Intermediate. Time—Approximately 1.5 hours.
