Did you know the Adirondacks are home to some amazing and award winning cheese?
Nettle Meadow Farm is a 50 acre goat and sheep dairy and cheese company in Thurman, New York just below Crane Mountain in the Adirondacks.

These are our local cheese champs. They brought home First, Second, and Fourth Place finishes in the mixed milk bloomy rind category at the 2017 U.S. Cheese Championships.
The farm is about a 30 minute drive from Garnet Hill Lodge, but as it is between us and Warrensburg, it can make a great stop on the way home if you are headed to the I-87 South. If you like goats or simply seeing an local farm going about their business, you won’t be disappointed.
The Thurman area is actually a hot spot for local farming, with a couple of maple farms and a poultry farm a short drive away. Below is a map of farms in the local area that I picked up on our last visit. It was originally made for the Thurman Fall Farm Tour on October 7. However, I don’t see why you couldn’t use it any time this fall to go exploring, keeping in mind that the open hours described don’t necessarily apply.
