Working away in the office, I cannot help but daydream about the miles upon miles of glorious, mountainous terrain that encircles Garnet Hill Lodge. During the summer months, New York City’s finest citizens flock into the Upstate’s awe-inspiring Adirondack Mountains in search of something adventurous and undeniably liberating. Luckily for you, we’re perfectly situated on a pine-less hill overlooking serene Thirteenth Lake, a hidden gem if there ever was one. North River, NY—particularly the seemingly endless four-season trail system that starts and ends at our Outdoor Center—is celebrated for its many activities, including trout fishing, paddling trips, and backcountry hiking. But, of course, this breathtaking land is also home to a variety of the quietest Upstate New York mountain bike trails.
A few years back now, Garnet Hill Lodge added five miles of dedicated single-track mountain bike trails near the Log House to accompany an already extensive network, as seen here. Many of the rawest bike trails in New York lie in this dense forestry amid towering firs, serene ponds, and deserted gravel roads. These well-groomed, Wilderness Property Management-approved trails feature a wide range of speedy berms, heart-racing downsides, exhilarating kickers, and challenging rails. That being said, there are several stretches of trail that are geared toward youngsters, first-timers, and novices.
Garnet Hill Lodge also welcomes an array of off-road cyclists looking for a true backcountry adventure. These daredevils use nothing but a map of the Adirondacks, a compass, and years of intuition to survey the land. Besides our traversable, on-site Nordic ski trails and countryside dirt roads, the peaks and valleys near the lodge are ideal for off-road fat biking or extreme cycling. The tranquility that’s obtained in this calming, dense woodland is indescribable. Make sure to pack a light picnic as there are several natural overlooks in the area that peer toward rolling Adirondacks and still lakes.
After spending a full day on nearly a dozen quintessential Upstate New York bike trails, return to Garnet Hill Lodge for a fresh-caught fish dinner, cold beer (or fine wine) at dusk, and a relaxing evening with friends new and old around the stone fireplace. Garnet Hill remains one of the premier four-season Adirondack resorts, primarily because of our stellar on-site dining, world-class trail system, and warm hospitality. Please give us a call at 518-251-2444 to learn more about a potential summertime mountain biking experience here in the heart of the Adirondacks. And, remember, you can always book now online!
