Option 1 – Easy – The Old Sugar House
Take a beautiful walk over scenic vistas, into valleys and through the woods on wide and flat Garnet Hill cross country ski trails. The trees, mountain sides and forest floors will be simply magical as the leaves will be at near peak foliage. Your destination will be the Old Sugar House located in a grove of maple trees that once served as a place where sap from the surrounding maple trees was made in to maple syrup. After taking a look around the Sugar House, continue on through rows of apple trees to your pickup location by a farm. The shuttle bus will then take you to the Garnet Hill Beach, where you can enjoy your picnic lunch provided by Garnet Hill, looking out at the mountains and foliage surrounding 13th Lake.
Option 2 – Challenging – Peaked Mountain
Climb to the top of Peaked Mountain for absolutely breathtaking views of the Adirondacks at peak foliage. At any time of the summer or fall, Peaked Mountain is a local favorite. The trail begins by following the edge of 13th Lake. Enjoy peaceful vistas from this first part of the hike before the trail arrives at a brook and turns away from the lake to begin a steady and pleasant climb to Peaked Mountain Pond. This pond sits below the mountain’s rocky summit and provides an ideal place to stop and have refreshment before ascending the cone. Once at the top there are marvelous views down to the pond and across to the area’s mountains. Expect to hike 8.2 miles and climb 1245 feet. A trail lunch is included in this hike.
What does it cost:
The day trips are $12 per hotel guest, and include a trail lunch.
