September Newsletter

Posted in Fall at Garnet Hill, General, Newsletters

It is hard to believe that the summer months are over and the kids are already back at school.  It was a wonderful summer here at Garnet Hill with plenty of hot days spent in 13th Lake or rafting down the Hudson River.  Though we do love the lazy days of summer and the extra time we often find to spend with our families and friends, we are  looking forward to fall here at Garnet Hill.

Cooler Nights

Cooler nights will settle into the area very soon, while the days will continue to provide enough warmth for water sports.  This is a great time to sneak in a last trip up to Garnet Hill. Choose one of our balcony rooms and picture yourself opening up the doors to let the evening breeze flow in off the lake and mountains. Or, choose a room in the Tea House Cottage so you can take a soak in your Jacuzzi tub after an active day. Book a room

Perfect Hiking Weather

In addition to more comfortable nights, September also ushers in perfect hiking and biking weather.  We are looking forward to being able to get out there and go for the distance, or the hill climb, or the extra run without the weather holding us back.  If you haven’t hiked Peaked Mountain yet, now is the time!  Our favorite way to do it is to paddle across the lake, then catch the trail and hike up.  The views are spectacular when you reach the top and you will have earned the reward.  See more hikes.

Biking Season

September 1 through the start of ski season, use of the Garnet Hill Bike Trails is free.  Take advantage of this opportunity to discover a new side of Garnet Hill before the snow comes.  Garnet Hill features two categories of bike-able trails: cross-country ski trails, and single-track bike trails.  Start from either the Log House parking lot or the Outdoor Center and weave your way through this network of intertwining trails with routes to suit a variety of ages and ability levels.  It really is a lot of fun.  More information and maps.

Fall Activities, Tours and Excursions

We will be offering hiking tours led by a Garnet Hill guide each weekend, and a kayak tour while weather permits.  These tours generally last about 1.5 to 2 hours.  If you are looking for a longer outing with a guide, consider joining us on our October 20 Day Hikes or booking an excursion through one of our community partners.  Excursions available this month include rail biking, guided canoe and fishing trips, and whitewater rafting.  Learn more.
