Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are the perfect ways to explore tranquil trails and experience the Adirondacks in a whole new way. Read on to find out why you’ll be confident and comfortable trying a new winter activity with us here at Garnet Hill Lodge.

Cross-Country Skiing: Beginners are More Than Welcome & You’ll Know What to Expect Before You Arrive

You don’t have to worry about leaping into the unknown with us. We cater to beginners and outdoor enthusiasts of all skill levels, and offer lessons, rentals, tours and more for everyone on our 50+ kilometer trail network.

ski lessons

We offer lessons for beginners, as well as intermediate and advanced skiers, including skate ski lessons. The PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) certified instructors can tailor the session to your needs or the interests of the group, should you want to focus on particular skills.

We understand that trying a new sport can be intimidating, and you don’t want to show up to an outdoor center or ski lodge and feel like you don’t know what’s going on – or how much it’s going to cost.

That’s why we clearly break out all the options on our website. You can check out the rates on our rentals and lessons page, and read about what to expect on our cross-country skiing and snowshoeing page.

Speaking of rentals, this is a prime opportunity to try a new sport before you make an investment in purchasing the equipment. Rentals can be easily reserved online, and lessons must also be booked ahead of time by calling the Garnet Hill Outdoor Center at 518-251-2150.

Even if you’ve never skied in your life, we can get you up-and-running at Garnet Hill, but if you’d like to start off with a winter activity that anyone with a basic level of fitness can easily do, there’s no better sport than snowshoeing.

The Garnet Hill staff knows their snowshoe equipment (we have a variety of snowshoes for rent or purchase), the techniques and our trails, and we’ll make sure you have an awesome time whether you’re heading off on your own or taking advantage of one of our guided tours.

We have six different snowshoe routes that intertwine with the cross-country ski trails, covering a variety of terrain. There’s nothing more peaceful than being the first out on our beautiful wooded trails after a fresh snowfall.  As with cross-country skiing, all the details on what to expect are provided on our website.

Let Garnet Hill be Your Connection to the Outdoors This Winter & Make Use of Our Gorgeous, Groomed Trails

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are great ways to explore the Adirondacks. If you love hiking and getting outside, these beginner-friendly sports are a natural extension of those summer and fall activities you enjoyed.

Traveling with family members a bit more experienced than you? No problem. That’s one of the advantages of recreating with us at Garnet Hill, where we make it easy for mixed-ability groups to make the most of their time. The accomplished skiers or snowshoers can go off on their own while beginners get their bearings with a lesson.

The best way to try a new sport is to learn it right the first time. Let us guide you into the wonderful world of winter activities, and continue to relish in all the Adirondacks has to offer. Go the extra mile and stay overnight at Garnet Hill to allow yourself multiple days of skill-building!
