Must Try Adirondack Winter Activities for the Adventure Seekers

Posted in Adirondack Vacation Packages, General, Winter at Garnet Hill

Wondering how you are going to make it through another winter of working until it’s dark outside? Consider getting outdoors and enjoying some fresh Adirondack mountain air! Whether your taste is the peace and tranquility of a snowshoe hike through the woods, a workout on cross-country skis, or the adrenaline rush from downhill skiing, the Adirondacks have it all.

Garnet Hill Lodge, located in the heart of the region, offers comfortable accommodations, rustic charm, excellent dining, and plenty of winter activities on-site and nearby.

Plan a Scenic Snowshoe Hike

Are you ready to immerse yourself in the wilderness with a snowshoe hike? There are excellent trails for snowshoeing both on our property and in the adjacent Siamese Ponds Wilderness Area. Expect hikes to take longer as winter conditions are much different than summer.

Some of these hikes include the Auger Falls Loop, consisting of cascading waterfalls over glistening ice during the winter months. This hike is 1.3 miles round trip and should take around 30 to 35 minutes.

Rent snowshoes at our lodge to climb into the “Garnet Hills” with the Peaked Mountain Trail. Boasting wonderful views of the Adirondack Mountains, this trail is accessible as you snowshoe across Thirteenth Lake (conditions permitting). At 8.2 miles and an elevation gain of 1,245 feet, this will take 7 hours or longer.

Our Outdoor Center staff can guide you to the best trails in the surrounding area for your skill level.

Go Skiing in the Adirondacks

Garnet Hill Lodge, near Gore Mountain, is the perfect basecamp for alpine skiing in the Adirondacks. We are a 15-minute drive away from Gore Mountain, New York’s largest ski resort with seven mountain areas, 14 lifts, and over 100 trails for skiing and snowboarding. You can also visit their Nordic Center for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on dedicated trails.

Or, step outside our front door and discover more than 50 kilometers of cross-country ski trails on the property. We keep our trails groomed throughout winter for maximum enjoyment.

In addition to our extensive trail network, we have a full-service ski center offering a wide range of equipment rentals and a ski school with lessons available for those of all abilities. So, with downhill skiing so close and first class cross-country skiing outside our doors, it’s no wonder so many choose to stay at Garnet Hill Lodge.

Experience the Joys of Ice Fishing

If any of these options don’t seem right for you, how about a guided ice fishing trip with Adirondack Mountain and Stream – another great Adirondack winter activity. Ice fishing tours are customizable, and Adirondack Mountain and Stream is one of our partners in the local community.
